Extra Accessories For Your Halogen Oven
When you buy your halogen oven, you will normally receive all of the accessories that you need in order to get started. Quite often a small halogen oven recipe book will even be included.
The example on the right is fairly typical. Most new halogen ovens come with an extender ring, a high and low rack, a couple of grill trays and a set of tongs. Have a look at our halogen oven reviews for examples of the accessories that are provided by different manufacturers if you like.
There’s absolutely no need to buy extra accessories when you’re just getting started with your halogen oven. However, over time the accessories will need to be replaced (because you will want to use your halogen oven a lot). There are also one or two other accessories that you might be interested in as you become more adept with your new oven and you want to experiment a little.
Obviously most of the accessories available are made by the same companies which make the halogen ovens themselves. Most halogen ovens are pretty similar in design though – so, if you can’t find the particular accessory that you want from the original supplier of your oven, you should be able to mix and match accessories from one manufacturer with an oven from another. Just check the physical size before you order.
Secura Turbo Oven Complete Accessory Set
The Secura Turbo Oven complete accessory set is a good example of the types of additional accessories available. There is a smaller version available, but we’ll have a quick look at the “complete” version as it’s a good way to check out what’s available.
Here’s what you get with the complete accessory set:
- Grilling plate.
- Steamer basket.
- Pizza pan.
- Browning pan.
- Breakfast rack.
- Roast rack.
As the name suggests, this is specifically designed for grilling.
It’s great for steaks, chicken, chops – anything that you would normally grill in other words.
This is ideal for steaming fish and vegetables. Just put a little water in the bottom of your oven, put whatever you want to steam in the basket and away you go.
It can also be used to air fry things like french fries, breaded chicken or fish. I like to lightly spray this type of food with a little olive oil prior to cooking – but it’s not strictly necessary.
This is designed to help you get a nice crispy crust on a pizza – the extra holes help with that.
You can heat up pizza on virtually any of the trays, but this will give you the crispiest base.
You might also find it handy for heating bread and cooking those part cooked baguettes that you can buy these days.
This is ideal for baking cakes and biscuits.
If you want, you can even spray it with a little oil oil, heat it up for about 5 minutes and then fry eggs on it. Very versatile.
I confess, I am somewhat ambivalent about this one. You can use it to cook your toast (yes, that’s right – toast in a halogen oven), eggs, bacon and sausages all in the same oven.
I find it easier to use a toaster, but bacon eggs and sausages in the halogen oven is pretty nifty. Of course, if you don’t have a toaster, then this might be very handy.
The roast rack needs to be combined with your existing low level rack, which would have been supplied with your halogen oven.
It allows you to cook a chicken or a turkey positioned vertically if you wish. You’ll almost certainly need to fit the extender ring to your oven for this to work.
Of course, you don’t strictly need this, you can just position your bird on the low rack supplied with the oven – but some people prefer to prop the bird up when roasting.
I suspect that these are included for completeness more than anything else. They’re not particularly unique to halogen ovens – still, you can never have too many skewers in the kitchen, can you?
Secura Turbo Oven 4-Piece Deluxe Accessory Set
As mentioned earlier, you can also get a smaller set of halogen oven accessories, both from Secura and other suppliers.
This set includes the grilling plate, steamer basket, browning pan and breakfast rack. No pizza pan, roast rack or skewers – but you might be happy enough to do without those of course.
Personally, I don’t really miss the pizza pan – you can just place a pizza direct onto the rack if you want it nice and crispy. I think that the smaller sized accessory sets are probably slightly better value for money – unless you absolutely must have one of the “missing items” of course.
Those are just some of the accessories available to help you get the most out of your halogen oven. The Secura accessories above will work for most 12 liter (just over 12.5 quarts if you prefer) halogen ovens – but you can see the full range of halogen oven accessories on Amazon if you want to view all of the other brands available – and there are plenty to choose from.
As mentioned earlier, you don’t really need any of these to get started with your halogen oven – but you might enjoy experimenting a little once you’ve had it for a while and you want to try some new things. Have fun.
